Designing your Silhouette

Using the personalization box, indicate who (if famous) the silhouette is to be of. If you have a particular silhouette you'd like us to use, especially if it is personal to you, please upload it using the file upload button. From the image(s) you provide, we will build a detailed rendering that captures the essence of the subject. For an idea of how the level of detail changes from an 8 x10 to an 11x14, refer to our art of Ada Lovelace.

We cannot offer detailed silhouettes in a smaller size. If you'd like a solid profile silhouette in any size, please refer to this listing: Custom Silhouette Art

Part of the expense of creating custom work is the digital workup. Since our art for Tesla, Turing, and Lovelace are already part of our catalog, they are available at our regular art pricing.

Design

We use a computer controlled cutting machine to precisely capture the details of your custom art piece. The circuit board shape will be cut to maximize area but we leave some white space between the circuit board and the mat for a polished design. We specifically use frames that can accommodate the thickness of circuit boards. Since we work with recycled circuit boards, every piece will be a little bit different. Therefore, the item you receive will be similar in scope to what's shown in the photos, but circuit board positioning/pattern will vary.

About our Featured Scientist Silhouettes:

Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (born 1815) was an English mathematician and writer, chiefly known for her work on Charles Babbage's proposed mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. She is often regarded as the first computer programmer.

Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system. In 1960 the General Conference on Weights and Measures named the SI unit of magnetic flux density the tesla in his honor.

Alan Mathison Turing was an English mathematician, computer scientist, logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher, and theoretical biologist. Turing played a crucial role in cracking intercepted coded messages during World War 2.

If something isn't right, please reach out to us with your concern and we will provide several solutions, which could include replacement or repair. In order to prevent this, we strongly recommend you request a proof to ensure you receive what you expect.

  • Are these circuit boards real? YES, and they really are this colorful! Refer to the color chart for an idea of the colors available

  • We use keyboard circuitry overlays to create a more interesting white space: this is especially cool for flags that have a lot of white, like Texas and the USA flag

Circuit Breaker Labs

Handmade by Scientists and Artists

Every project starts with broken electronics

We primarily work with computer motherboards and we find ourselves enamored with their color. It’s how they’re made, so we build our designs around the colors we can find. Orange and purple are the rarest.

Hand and computer-operated tools shape the circuit boards

This router, for example, enables us to carve even the most intricate designs that would be impossible by hand. This also ensures that we can perfectly capture your logo, pet silhouette, or skyline.

Finished by hand

Finishing work is done meticulously by hand so that we can ensure every piece we send out meets our quality standards. Fragile items are packed with care to ensure a safe arrival, and small items are always gift-boxed.

About Us

Because Science is a love letter to all things STEM, particularly the fusion of art and science. A lot of the products you’ll find here and in our shop are handmade in our very own design lab, while some are the brainchild of other creators. We celebrate it all because science literally makes the world go ‘round.
