You have to work twice as hard to be half as good. I'm not discounting this as the reality for others but in my experience it backfired.

At my first job I found myself working extra hours, going in on the weekends, and signing up to help whenever asked only to be given a poor performance review.

It didn't matter how hard I worked I would never be as good as the guys. So I left.

I took 2 lessons away from this situation:
1. Never try to prove your value to others, it's a losing battle. Go where you are valued.
2. Never work twice as hard, work 2x smarter."
