Pride in STEM Festival

Join us for the Pride in STEM Festival, a joyful celebration of identity, curiosity, creativity, and community! This interactive STEM and craft festival invites visitors of all ages to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics through hands-on activities, colorful demonstrations, and creative projects that celebrate both Pride and discovery.

Enjoy a weekend packed with rainbow-inspired experiments, collaborative art, DIY crafts, and engaging STEM experiences. From giant bubbles and elephant's toothpaste to Pride bracelets, rainbow slime, e-waste art, and dazzling suncatchers, there's something for everyone to enjoy in this vibrant and inclusive space.

Hosted by Because Science, a woman-owned science gift shop and event space in Washington, DC, dedicated to making science playful, personal, and proud.

Festival Details

• Dates: June 20–21
• Festival Hours: 12 PM–6 PM both days
• Location: The Craft Lab at Because Science, 1759 Columbia Rd NW, Washington, DC
• Format: Drop-in activities throughout the day
• Indoor & Outdoor Event: Free activities take place outside, while select ticketed workshops are held indoors.

Our activities are designed for all ages and most projects take between 10 and 30 minutes to complete. No registration is required, though signing up can help you keep track of your favorite activities and share them with friends. 

In addition to the festival activities, visitors can explore the unique science gifts and other educational experiences available at Because Science.

Saturday, June 20

FREE Outdoor Activities

12:00–12:30 PM — Color ChemShow
Watch science come alive in a colorful demonstration showcasing the amazing wonders of chemistry and the creation of rainbow effects using everyday household materials.

12:30–1:45 PM — Food Coloring Rainbow Art
Create vibrant rainbow artwork using reverse-coloring techniques and explore the science of color.

2:00–3:45 PM — DIY Pride Buttons
Design and create your own custom buttons to celebrate Pride and self-expression.

4:00–5:45 PM — Pride Slime
Mix, stretch, and customize your own rainbow-inspired slime creation.

Getting Here & What to Expect: 
All events take place inside the Craft Lab at Because Science, our retail shop located at 1759 Columbia Rd NW, Washington, DC (across from the Line Hotel in Adams Morgan).

 Look for the squiggly rainbow mural! Enter Because Science and walk to the back of the store (between the biology and anatomy sections) to find the entrance to the Craft Lab
 Metro: We're a 10-minute walk from the Woodley Park (red line) or Columbia Heights (green line) Metro stations.
 Bus: The D72, D74, C51, and C53 buses stop nearby.
 Parking: Street parking is mostly limited to 30 minutes—walking, biking, or ride share is recommended. There is a parking garage located at 2421 18th St NW, about a block away.
